Krakow

The old center of Krakow is a large, colorful collection of monuments, cathedrals, beautiful mansions and even a castle. The former capital of Poland is on the UNESCO World Heritage List for a reason.

Krakow (800,000 inhabitants) is one of the major tourist attractions in Europe. The Main Market Square (Rynek Główny) is even the largest city square in Europe. The square in the heart of the city is the size of three football fields and is surrounded by stately mansions, palaces and churches from the 13th century. Tourist attractions in the square include the Sukiennice bazaar and St. Mary's Church. A little further between the market square and the river Wisla, you will find the imposing Wawel Castle, which was once home to the Polish kings and later presidents.

Shopping and entertainment

Krakow has a compact center. All attractions are within walking distance! The old town is a succession of shopping streets and terraces. It doesn't matter which route you take – there is always something to buy, eat or drink. During the day there is shopping, but in the evening students and partygoers rule the streets. The most famous location is of course the market square, which is completely lined with cafe bars and terraces. Especially in summer the terraces are pleasantly busy. In the middle of the square is the beautiful Sukiennice bazaar where you can buy everything from crafts to delicacies. This heart of Krakow beats 24 hours a day.

Well-known shopping streets are Grodzka Street that connects the market square with the Wawel Castle and on the other side of the market, the always lively Florianska Street with countless restaurants, cafes and bars. If you keep walking you will come to the Krakowski Kredens – a large and modern shopping center.
