The Drenthe Cup is held at a large sports venue less than 1.5 kilometres from the centre of Meppel. Meppel (33,000 inhabitants) is a colourful provincial town in the rural north of the Netherlands. Bad Hesselingen is a large, covered, tropical pool paradise close to the centre of Meppel. There is a range of attractions, such as 5 slides, one of which is 50 metres long, jet streams and a wild water river. There is also a pool bar and a small restaurant.
