From the very first edition, it’s impossible to imagine the Euro-Sportring programme without the Berlin Handball Cup. The tournament largely takes place at the immense ‘Sportforum Berlin Hohenschönhausen’, just east of the centre. With 55 hectare the Sportforum is probably Europe’s largest sports complex and offers a choice of facilities, including three handball halls with galleries for thousands of spectators. In short, a perfect location for an international event in one of Europe’s most exciting cities. When you’re in Berlin you want to of course discover the city. The organisers know this, which is why group competitions are completed compactly. This also results in appreciation: “the playing schedule was great, we had enough time to explore Berlin” stated one of the participants afterwards. The city centre with animated districts, squares and boulevards, but also the Wall are 20 minutes away by tram. The tournament ends with a festive night in Sportforum.
The Berlin Handball Cup is organised by SV BVG 49 e.V., a multi-sport club with 600 members. Approximately 100 of its members play handball. The rest of the members play football, tennis, volleyball, table tennis and participate in track & field events.
