Lavanttal Cup Wolfsberg, Austria - 03 untill 04 April 2010 (Easter) (at)

Easter in Wolfsberg is something special. Traditionally, Easter bonfires will be lit in the mountains around Wolfsberg so competitors in the Lavanttal Cup will have a chance to experience some typical Austrian Easter atmosphere. But of course competitors travel here first and foremost to play football and at the Lavanttal Cup they won’t be disappointed. The tournament starts on Friday evening the teamleaders reception in the townhall of Wolfsberg. On Saturday it’s time for the group matches. In the evening the Wolfsberg welcome ceremony will take place. On Sunday the remaining group matches will decide which teams will play the finals. The prize giving ceremony at the end of the tournament will conclude the sports part of this tournament but this isn’t the end of the Lavanttal Cup just yet. On Sunday evening all participants are invited to a farewell party at the town's stadium.

As well as participation at the tournament, Euro-Sportring also arranges the accommodation for the participants. Participants can usually choose between school accommodation, group accommodation (youth accommodation and bungalows) and hotels. Wolfsberg.
Wolfsberg (30,000 inhabitants) the capital of the Lavanttal (= valley of the river Lavant), is situated between Graz and Klagenfurt, in the south of Austria. The Lavant is dividing the town in two parts. The origins of Wolfsberg date from the last years of the twelfth century. In the centre you can find many historical buildings in gothic and renaissance style, especially at the 'Hohe Platz' and the 'Getreidenmarkt'. The beautiful castle 'Schloss Wolfsberg' has an interesting Mausoleum. Apart from the historical meaning, Wolfsberg is also a nice tourist centre with attractive taverns, shops and terraces.

Klagenfurt.
Klagenfurt (25 miles from Wolfsberg) is a great place throughout the year. The town on the shores of the warmest Alpine lake is full of parks and has a wide range of facilities. Sports, shopping or culture, there is something to suit everybody. The 'Rose of Lake Wörthersee' (as Klagenfurt is known) has a mild southern climate and one of Austria's most beautiful old city centres. The friendly inhabitants and culinary delights create Klagenfurt's a special ambiance of hospitality. Stroll along the large lakeside lido and take a dive in the water which is good enough to drink. And when the lake freezes over in the winter you have Europe's largest open-air ice rink.

Wörthersee (50 minutes, 38 miles).
The Wörthersee is also called the 'Austrian Riviera' It is the largest lake of Carinthia and has still clean water! The climate is such that there are many bathing resorts of which the most important are Velden (mundane; nice lake-promenade), Pörtschach (situated on a peninsula; Flower promenade) and Maria Wörth (on a peninsula as well; many historical buildings). Moreover visit of Minimundus (the small town on the lake).

Leisure activities:
* Minigolf. Minigolf beside the football stadium. Opening hours: 10.00 – 20.00 hrs. Entrance fee: around € 1,50 per person.
* Go-Kart indoor. Go-Kart indoor exciting racing possibilities in a hall situated at 4 kilometers from the stadium. Opening hours: 11.00 – 20.00 hrs. Fee: around € 15,00 per 20 minutes.
* Kegeln. Kegeln is a funny variety of bowling (skittles), possible to be played on different locations in the centre of Wolfsberg. Opening hours: 11.00 – 23.00 hrs. Fee: around € 12,50 per hour, independently of the number of players.Rodeln in Klippitz. 'Rodeln' is to discover the mountains in a speedy way. This sliding track is appr. 1800 meters long and gives you an exciting feeling while flashing down the mountain like a racer. Approx. Fees: children €6,-, adults €8,- . First you will be carried to the top in a lift. Opening hours: until dark.
